Biciklijada u Šterni - Bicycle tour in Šterna

2. Recreational bicycle race

North western Istria is presenting yet another from a series of bicycle rides ideal for recreation in the unspoilt nature of the hilly parts of green Istria - the Šterna recreational MTB bicycle ride to be held in the immediate hinterland of Umag and Novigrad in early August.

The ride starts in the village of Šterna, north-east of the historical Grožnjan, the international artist centre, at 5 p.m.

The trail passes through mostly forest paths and trails, by the villages of Čepić and Sv. Ivan, to return to Šterna in which a potable water source and an old church have been preserved to this day. The ride takes about 3 hours required to negotiate the 30 km of medium difficulty trails.

With the exception of the start and finish, the bicycle route mostly circumvents settlements, winding through luscious and shadowy forest landscapes, passing through the protected forest of Kornarija. The most popular natural beauty on the route is the waterfall of Butori and an abyss of the same name.

A 30 kn (5 €) fee is required for participation in this sporting event and cyclists will get lunch, drinks and refreshments along the way. Participation is at your own risk and organizers recommend helmets and spare inner tubes.

This year, Šterna bicycle ride will be held for the second time. Don't miss recreation in the unexplored woods of north western Istria, in clean air and only 20 km from the sea. Supplement your stay on the Adriatic with an active vacation on two wheels – come to Šterna and spend a day in our company!
