242A THREE THOUSAND YEAR HISTORY

Itinerary description:

Staying in Bale and not taking advantage of the opportunity to "jump" by bike to the three thousand year old town of Pula would be a real sin. Trail no. 242 is the one which offers an excursion to the largest Istrian town that can boast an inexhaustible historical heritage, from Roman to Austro-Hungarian, starting with the two thousand year old Amphitheatre. Besides that, this trail does not just offer a gateway to Pula through the stunning town of Vodnjan dominated by St. Blaise’s Church. On the way back, this itinerary will take you through Fažana from which you will be able to enjoy a breath-taking view over the Brijuni National Park and its archipelago consisting of 14 islands and islets. You can visit it by boat departing from Fažana. Before going back to Bale, you will have time to pedal through another two fascinating places, Peroj and Barbariga.

Technical specifications:

This average demanding trail is 49 kilometres long. Its altitude difference is 230 metres: with the highest point being at 177 metres above sea level and the lowest at 3 metres. It is suitable for all riders, even the less experienced as it does not conceal any technically demanding parts. The only "danger" on the road could be the carelessness you might be subjected to especially in Pula, when passing the historical sights. So it would not hurt to take a break and enjoy the moment. Fitter riders will master this trail in 1h:45m, while those who are not at their best, physically will probably need 2h:20m.
